Performances

This year Brookdale Youth Theatre performances include;

All 90 members of BYT provided the entertainment for
President’s Evening.

Two entries in Greater Manchester Drama Federation’s 1 Act Play Festival at Hyde Theatre, in June.

23rd -28th November, 2009. Footloose This is our main show this year.

A BYT Christmas 21st December an family evening of festive entertainment performed by the whole group.

BYT have performed at plays and musical entertainments both at in house events and external festivals.

 

Awards

Brookdale Youth Theatre received 4 nominations from the prestigious Greater Manchester Drama Federation in their full length festival for their production of ‘Les Miserables’ and we are very proud to announce that all four young people won their categories. Best Actor Scott Slater, Best Actress Lauren Hutchinson, Best Supporting Actress Flick Khouri, and Best Supporting Actor Tim Wood.

 

Weekly Programme

We run a varied programme that explores all disciplines of the performing arts. When we are not working towards a show or performance, the terms are structured in workshops that look at improving skills as performers.

Focus of previous workshops has included;

Group 1

  1. Acting in a musical context
  2. Acting when singing
  3. Characterisation
  4. Improvisation
  5. Approaching a script
  6. Knowing your audience when creating your work

 

 

Group 2

  1. Stage ‘do’s’ and ‘don’ts’
  2. Characterisation
  3. Projection
  4. Approaching a script
  5. Self-direction and awareness on stage
  6. Improvisation
  7. Scriptwriting

 

Group 3

  1. Building confidence
  2. Performance skills and friendships through drama
  3. Workshops improvisation based around a theme
  4. Working towards annual concerts
  5. Above all, group 3 is about having fun whilst learning

 

We have visiting practitioners throughout the year to enhance the programme to enable the young people to benefit from the expertise of experienced arts professionals also to get used to working with different people (this is a simulation of ’the real professional arts world’).

Voice Projection with Marie Dixon
Script writing for film with Beth Mc Cann
Singing Master class with Martin Roche
Capoeira (Brazilian dance) with Jenny Brown
Street dance with Naomi
Film Project with Gino Evans

Future Workshops to include

Stage Make- up artist and modeller of prosthetics
Creating a sit-com

Extra opportunities

Additional Workshops

We have hosted three professional workshops, current West End performers have provided workshops on Les Miserables, Blood Brothers and most recently We Will Rock You. The next workshop will be held in the new year. These events are open to non-members and the cost is £12.

Festivals

Over the last three years we have entered 5 plays in the GMDF One Act Play Festival and have been successful winning ‘Best Actress’   ‘Best Play’ 3 times This year the over 15’ entry Albert
Won best play and the under 15s won runner up and a nomination for ‘Best Actor’

 

Theatre Visits

Theatre visits are an important part of the programme
Last season we visited

  1. The Palace Theatre
  2. The Lowry
  3. Buxton Opera House
  4. Apollo Theatre London to see ‘Wicked’

We have plans to visit Stratford and the National theatre in London

We also take groups to see Brookdale Productions which have included ’Hayfever’ ‘The Darling Buds of May’ and ’Barnum’ all these productions have included members of BYT.
There are opportunities for  young people to audition for parts in all Brookdale productions throughout the season.
We encourage our members to get involved backstage helping with lights, sound, stage managing and front of house duties.

 

 

Summer School

From the 9th to 14th August we will be holding our fifth annual Summer School, we will audition cast and rehearse then perform a fully set and costumed musical to an audience. This year’s show is ‘Oliver!’. Places are limited.
Previous Summer School shows have included Guys and Dolls, Viva Mexico, The Sound of Music and Hello Dolly!

Footloose

Brookdale Youth Theatre will be the first society in the North West  to perform this recently released musical.
We have a very talented team director, musical director and choreographers to produce this high-energy fun show.
Auditions will be held the first week of September.
